| For 1999 to 2010 Chevrolet/GMC 1/2 ton Pickups with 2/1= 3 Leaf OE Springs General Motors greatly improved the ride quality in 1988 and up pickups by going to a much longer rear spring than in prior years. Prior to 1988 1/2 ton GM pickups used 52" long springs rated at 1875 to 2200 lb per spring depending on which OE spring. After 1988 they are 64" long rated at only 1500lb per spring if it is a 2/1=3 Leaf spring. (The most commonly used factory spring for 1/2 ton Chevrolet/GMC pickups from 1999-2010. While this makes a smoother, more comfortable ride it leaves us in many cases with a truck that sags under moderate loads. For example a 4 wheeler in the box or 500lb tongue weight on a trailer can put the rear too low and compromise drivability even when the springs are in new condition. Time only makes the ability to handle loads and towing worse. Sometimes the truck eventually sits low in the back even when not loaded and drops to much with load, appearance, headlight aim, and wheel alignment are adversely affected. This kit will increase load capacity by approximately 800lb and rear height by approximately 1" by adding an additional leaf under leaf #2 of the OE 3 leaf stack. If you're a little under sprung for the loads you haul or have lost a little height due to age this kit will be a great help at a moderate cost. It is easy to install, not requiring removal of the spring from the truck or redoing of rebound clips. *****Tip: If the 800lb rating and 1" increased height will be ideal for you this is a very good way to improve your truck.
